Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas

Cartagena was one of the storage points for merchandise from Spain and for treasures collected from the Americas to be sent to Europe. A series of forts protecting the approaches and the formidable walls which surround the city made it almost impregnable. The Dutch, British and Portuguese all tried to take it! This is the largest and most powerful of all the fortresses.
