Chiva

Crowded, slow, ramshackle, colourful and cheap, these local buses are called 'chivas' and we did a city tour on one. The other mode of transportation is on a 'colectivo' or shared taxi. There are no official stops - you just stand at the side of the road and wave your hand as the van approaches and the driver stops to pick you up. The fare is the same no matter how far you're going - 1,200 pesos (35p) and you let the driver know where you want to get off. All were brightly decorated inside with salsa music playing and some girls swaying in their seats.
