Army Ants

I have never seen so many ants - the jungle floor was swarming with them and you had to be careful where you put your feet because they'd be all over your shoes and up the inside of your trouser legs in no time, and they have powerful jaws and vicious bites. A couple of times I could be seen hopping up and down, slapping my legs and hollering as if participating in some tribal ritual. Apparently the fire ants, which were just little red specks on a tree bark, have some of the most painful bites of all and were used as a punishment by letting them swarm all over the body of a person who'd committed a crime.
