El Mirador (Lookout)

On my last evening, the guide and I paddled in the canoe across to the other side of the lake and walked up to this lookout point to enjoy views across the Madidi National Forest. An iridescent blue butterfly the size of a dinner plate swooped past my head as I looked out over the vast forest into the distance. There used to be a lot of hunting in this area but now all the animals are protected and the land is being preserved for future generations.
