Took a 5-hour bus ride from Potosi to this mining town of Oruro which I had heard explodes into life once a year with a famous festival called 'La Diablada', a ceremony that pays homage to the miraculous Virgen del Soravón, patroness of miners, and to Pachamama, the Earth Mother. It was originally performed by indigenous miners but several other guilds have taken up the custom and it's growing bigger every year. I strolled down this street a couple of hours before it filled with dancers and musicians. (Paceña is a Bolivian beer).
